how it feels to reply to a pitchlist
Midterms got you down? Procrastinate them by writing for features!
Some small announcements before we get to the pitches:
The week’s features meeting will happen on Friday from 3–4 p.m. in the Ubyssey office. This week, we’ll discuss this article about gamers and speedrunning.
The Ubyssey’s annual magazine is hiring! Looking to get some editing experience? Thinking of running for editorial next year? Mag is a great place to start — many past and present editors (including yours truly) started with editing mag. Learn more here. Questions? Email Lauren and Elena, the magazine editors-in-chief at [email protected].
The annual Ubyssey retreat on Pender Island is happening from November 2–5! Pender is a great way to make friends at the paper, whether you contribute every day or once a year. Learn more here.
Make sure to join the Ubyssey Discord for paper-wide updates, and join the features Facebook group for last-minute pitches and meeting updates!
In the meantime, if you have a longform pitch or want to chat, you can reply to this email, message me on Discord or email me at [email protected].
1) If you're a first-time writer, let me know in your email.
2) Rank the pitches you’d like to take.
3) After you take a pitch, I’ll send you an email to ensure you have all the information you need before you get to work!
3) Be mindful of potential conflicts of interest. If you aren't sure, ask!
4) Tell me before the deadline if you can't complete a story in time. A really cool guy (me) once said that communication between writers and editors ensure a smooth pitch-to-publish process for everyone!
