Places to Go: Pender Island

The Ubyssey’s annual Pender Island retreat was last weekend. If you attended, or have attended in the past, write 100–400 words about the island for a Places to Go compilation of a bunch of Pender experiences.

100–400 words by November 20.

Feature: Requiem for Vanier

The Campus Vision 2050 plan includes a Place Vanier expansion. This means some Vanier buildings will be torn down and replaced with other, newer more dense buildings. The plan said this will “significantly increase undergraduate student housing capacity, address seismic deficiencies and create a more active and vibrant pedestrian environment.”

Do some archive digging about the history of Place Vanier and student reception when the residence opened. Talk to UBC about why this is the best way to expand the residence, what impact this will have on student beds on campus and what this means for an evolving campus.

2000 words + archive clippings by December 10.
